Shared Lives Plus, Community Catalysts, In Control, Inclusive Neighbourhoods and Partners in Policymaking have published a paper, ‘Redesigning the front end of social care’, urging the government to use the forthcoming social care White Paper to design a care system based on a partnership with people, rather than a “battle” over resources.

Focusing on what happens when people first encounter social care, the paper looks at people’s experiences of assessments, discussions about eligibility and access to services. It explores what these processes do to an individual’s independence and to their relationships with their families and communities. It suggests that, for many people, services are not the only or the best way of tackling isolation or social exclusion.
